About Jez Rose
Before you can study an animal, you must first love it. Konrad Lorenz
Jez Rose is a canine behaviour specialist, dealing with a wide range of training, behaviour and temperament problems. He is a Fellow of the International Society for Canine Excellence, the training and behaviour specialist for the KONG Company Ltd and the Scientific Advisor to the Welfare Committee at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust.
A frequent lecturer and guest speaker, Jez's invitations to speak about the application of behavioural psychology extend to business organisations such as Pfizer, HBOS and the BBC. He also presents seminars and lectures for veterinary professionals, educating in managing and preventing canine behaviour and temperament problems.
Born and raised in Buckinghamshire, Jez studied a student design course in psychology whilst working for a UK National Health Service Trust. He was awarded his PhD in behavioural psychology, based on research and a thesis on human-animal relationships; specifically the impact canines can have in healthcare. Studying the work of the likes of B.F. Skinner, Joseph LeDoux and Ivan Pavlov sparked an initial interest in the understanding of animal behaviour, however, it was a chance encounter with a neighbour who owned a dog that she took into care homes for therapy, that got Jez seriously thinking about the impact of animals on human behaviour.
Jez has co-hosted a popular podcast series on dog training and behaviour called The Canine Connection, interviewing eminent trainers and researchers such as the founder of puppy training Dr. Ian Dunbar and Victoria Stilwell of the hit Channel 4 show It's Me Or The Dog. It's popularity sparked the production of a second series due out in 2012.
He frequently appears on radio and television, including My Baby Radio, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Oxford, BBC Three Counties Radio, LBC, BBC London's Barking At The Moon, Talk Radio Europe, ITV1, Channel 4 and the Discovery Channel.
He has written and continues to write guest articles for publications including Veterinary Times, Dogs Monthly, Country Homes magazine and Families magazine.
In 2010 Rose played a key role in establishing The International Society for Canine Excellence, a collaboration of the worlds' most eminent individuals in canine behaviour and training and was made a Fellow. In 2010 he was made a Fellow of the Unite University Program.
Jez is a member of the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour, the Professional Association for Applied Canine Trainers and the Association of Animal Behaviour Professionals.
