MUG.

Hello dear reader - welcome to your Wednesday Weekly.

It all begins when one person leaves their mug in the sink.

That one innocent-enough behaviour is copied.

Someone else sees that abandoned mug and accepts this immediately as an acceptable behaviour, and they leave their mug there, too.

A once clean sink now home to two dirty mugs.

Next a used tea spoon.

And another mug.

Followed by another. And another.

Quickly escalating to a pile of dirty mugs and spoons.

Only when there are no clean mugs to use does someone feel frustrated because they have to wash a mug to use it.

So often we fill the metaphorical sink with dirty mugs. No one questions the morals of the behaviour, or the fallout and consequences - we mimic behaviours we see others getting away with: jumping a queue; proceeding through a red light; ignoring the "no entry" sign; taking something left in the open; lying; cheating.... both good and bad, we adopt the most common emotion - and behaviours - which surround us.

It takes just one person to clean that dirty mug and put it away, leaving an empty sink, to maintain the status quo and encourage better behaviours.

Mindful behaviours help us lead more meaningful lives.

Happy Wednesday,

Jez
